How to light a hair salon?
Lighting is extremely important within any environment, whether domestic or commercial, particularly when it comes to lighting a hair salon.
The right lighting helps to make any working environment open to the public welcoming and comfortable.
With regard to the specific case of a hairdresser’s shop, however, the lighting has a further function, as it allows those who work, to perform cuts and treatments with sufficient light and targeted, while allowing customers to see clearly the result obtained on their hair, both with regard to a treatment carried out with regard to color and cut.
Proper lighting also allows hairdressers to work precisely and meticulously.
Lighting a hairdressing salon is therefore a work that must be done by following some detailed directions and a lighting design plan, possibly performed by an expert.
Which lights to use
As far as the choice between cold and warm light is concerned, it is advisable to find a sort of middle ground, as both too intense cold light and too strong warm light could distort the colours, making them either too light or too dark.
A middle ground is needed so that the light can be as true to reality as possible.
It is also recommended to use LED lighting. There are different LED lighting for shops, created specifically for larger or smaller commercial spaces, from which to choose.
As far as the power of the light is concerned, a medium voltage is recommended, as a light that is too strong could annoy the customer and a light that is too low could prevent the operator from doing his job properly, as he would not be able to see correctly.
Where to place the lights in a hairdresser’s shop
Spotlights are particularly suitable for hairdressing salons. It is necessary to install more than one, leaving a certain distance between them.
As far as their correct positioning is concerned, they must be installed in such a way that the light beam is exactly between the customer and the operator.
It would be wrong for the beam to hit only the place where the operator is positioned or only the customer.
It is also possible to design a LED strip light, that is, to apply real strips of LED light along the entire perimeter of the walls and ceilings of the store, so as to illuminate the entire environment in a homogeneous manner.
Lighting at mirrors and sinks
In addition to the general lighting of the store, it is also essential to take care of the lighting of each mirror in front of which the customer will stand and of each wash station.
In particular in the mirror area LED strips are ideal, so as to reduce consumption, but to illuminate the face of customers without creating shadows.
As far as the wash station is concerned, the lighting must be in favour of the operator, to allow him to see perfectly and clearly the work he is doing, but without bothering those sitting in the chair.
